Jan 2023

In January 2023, I embarked on an epic adventure around the stunning landscapes of southern Iceland, a journey that left me spellbound by the raw beauty of this Nordic wonderland. Starting near Reykjavik and tracing a path eastward, each day brought with it a new discovery and a new appreciation for the awe-inspiring natural wonders that Iceland has to offer

A few of the noteable parts of my journey;

Selfoss Waterfall, where the rushing waters plunged dramatically into the abyss below, creating a mesmerizing display of power and beauty.

The Crashed DC-3 Plane One of the most intriguing stops along our route was the site of the crashed DC-3 plane, a worthwhile hike through Icelands famous black sands

As we ventured further east, we found ourselves in the presence of the awe-inspiring Skaftafellsjökull Glacier, its icy expanse stretching out before us as far as the eye could see. The glacier trek was by far the best and most memorable part of the journey

No trip to southern Iceland would be complete without a visit to the iconic Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where massive chunks of ice calved from the nearby glacier floated serenely in the crystal-clear waters, creating a scene straight out of a fairy tale. Nearby, Diamond Beach offered a surreal sight, with glittering icebergs washed ashore like precious jewels scattered along the black sand shoreline.

The black sand beach in Vik offered a striking contrast to the icy landscapes we had encountered thus far, with its volcanic shores and towering sea stacks providing a dramatic backdrop for our exploration.

Our final day saw us journeying back towards Reykjavik, with stops at the otherworldly Kerið Crater, the thundering Gullfoss Waterfall, and the erupting Strokkur Geyser, each one a testament to the incredible geological forces at work beneath Iceland’s surface.
